Hello travellers and free wifi seekers ! Its nice to met you, in this blog post I will give you the best tips, tricks and advice on how to get free wifi while travelling. We have all been there when our data plan runs out or maybe you have an emergency or just want to surf social media while travelling around or communicate with friends and family. Some work to do on your laptop on the go ? No problem…

Mcdonalds

Your most reliable source of free wifi will be in McDonalds, most restaurants up and down the uk will have free wifi, just go to settings and select the McDonalds wifi and connect. You will need to accept the restaurant’s terms and conditions first. There’s a McDonalds in nearly every city and they are easy to spot if you need emergency wifi this is so reliable. Tip : You don’t even need to go in and buy a coffee, just stand close to the building and you can get connected.

Train Stations

If you are a traveller you already know this about train stations and trains, but sometimes it can be very slow as train stations have a lot of people trying to connect to the wifi. On trains is even worse, sometimes you will get good wifi then other times it can be off or not work at all. It is fantastic though when you can sit on your laptop for a few hours on a train journey and get things done! Tip : Don’t rely on train wifi as it can go off and on and have issues, if you are on a busy train and wifi is not connecting just try again. It can take up to 5 minuets to get connected. Trick : You don’t need to be going on a train journey just stand close to the station and you can try to connect in the event of an emergency. Advice : A lot of trains have charging bays now where you can charge up your phone, laptop or device. This is handy and you should take advantage of an opportunity to charge up your devices.

Starbucks

There are 1,203 starbucks stores in the uk and most provide free wifi. This is probably the most obvious place to chill out with coffee and surf the web in the cities, although if your travelling certain routes in the uk away from cities your other best bet is smaller coffee shops. They are to be found in many roadsides in the uk countryside and near smaller towns, most are family run. Keep an eye out while travelling in your car or van there will always be signage pointing to a coffee stop on popular tourist routes within the uk. Most will provide free wifi ! Tip : Wifi passwords are usually displayed on posters or a sign within the coffee shop, don’t be afraid to ask.

Primark

Primark stores up and down the uk have free wifi and also charging stations at seating areas, you can relax and charge your phone or device in here. Trick : You dont need to buy anything to use the facility, just have a look at the clothes.

Pubs

Small towns always have pubs and they are easily findable, 60 percent of them should offer some form of free wifi and the password is probably displayed inside on a poster or chalkboard. Tip : If you don’t want a pint simply walk in and ask to use the toilet, spy the wifi password and just connect outside. Pubs are your best bet if your in a car or van/motorcycle and your desperate for wifi.

Emergency !

If you are really stranded or in need of calling someone or something extremely important and your phone wont work, don’t be afraid to ask someone to use their phone. Sometimes you cant find a pub or a McDonalds or your battery has ran out! If your far away from home ask around, ask ask ask. Everyone you met will likely have a mobile phone even in the most empty countryside areas. Advice : Be polite when asking to use someone’s phone.
